ADO.Net interview Question And Answers(7-11)
7. Explain the Use of connection pooling in ADO.NET?
Ans:enables an application to use a connection from a pool of connections that do not need to be re-established for each use. Once a connection has been created and placed in a connection pool, an application can reuse that connection without performing the complete connection creation process. By default, it is created when the first connection with a unique connection string connects to the database. The pool is populated with connections up to the minimum pool size. Additional connections can be added until the pool reaches the maximum pool size.
8. Is XML a component of ADO.NET ?
Ans:The answer is always Yes. 1. XML is an important component of ADO.NET architecture.
2. ADO.NET use XML to store and transfer data.
3. We do not have to convert data to XML format.
4. Datasets helps XML to integrate with ADO.NET.
5. XML schema plays a role to get table definition, column ,data types and constraints helps DataSet.
8. Difference between ADO and ADO.NET
9.Difference between ADO and ADO.NET?
ADO
1.This object model could be used even for non RDBMS products. We can read data from xml, excel, csv files also.
2.objects are dependent on OLEDB providers and OLEDB providers would connect to the backend.
3.Fully COM based.
ADO.NET
1.This is not an enhanced version of ADO. Its a new object model, which has some objects similar to ADO.
2.we use Managed Providers.
10. What are the three Objects of ADO ?
Ans:1. Connection
2. Command
3.Adapter
11. What is Diffgram in ADO.NET? When do we use Diffgram?
Ans:It is an XML format. It is used to identify current and original versions of data elements.
A DataSet may use a DiffGram format to load and persist the contents, and further to serialize its contents for porting across a network connection.
Whenever a DataSet is written as a DiffGram, the DataSet populates the DiffGram with all the important information to accurately recreate the contents.
Note that schema of the DataSet is not recreated. This includes column values from both the Current and the Original row versions, row error information, and row order.
When do we use Diffgram?
When sending and retrieving a DataSet from an XML Web service, the DiffGram format is implicitly used.
when loading the contents of a DataSet from XML using the ReadXml method, or when writing the contents of a DataSet in XML
using the WriteXml method, we can specify that the contents be read or written as a DiffGram.
DiffGram format is primarily used by the .NET Framework as a serialization format for the contents of a DataSet
we can also use DiffGrams to modify data in tables in a Microsoft SQL Server database.
Diffgram is generated by writing the contents of all tables to a element.

ADO.Net Interview (1-6)Question And Answers
ADO.Net Interview (1-6)Question And Answers
1. What is ADO.NET?
Ans:Expansion of ADO.NET is ActiveX Data Objects. Set of classes that expose primary relational data access services to the Microsoft
.NET based Applications. Easy-to-use yet extensible technology for adding database connectivity to Web pages. Provides interface to access, manipulate, and exchange data in the
.NET Framework. Works with any component on any platform which understands XML. Should not be confused with ADO.
It is the next generation of ADO.
2. What is DataSet?
Ans:Disconnected cache of records retrieved from the data source and works like a virtual data store.Similar to that of a relational database A dataset includes one or more tables in the actual database.Contains information about the relationships between the tables and constraints on what data the tables contain. Fundamental parts of a dataset are exposed through standard programming constructs such as properties and collections.
For example: The DataSet class includes the Tables collection of data tables and the Relations collection of DataRelation objects.
3.Define different execute methods of ADO.NET command object?
Ans:1.ExecuteScalar : Returns a single value from the first row and first column of the result got from the execution of SQL query.
2.ExecuteNonQuery : Executes the DML SQL query just like insert, delete or update and then returns the number of rows affected by the action.
3.ExecuteReader : Returns DataReader object which is a forward-only resultset.
4.ExecuteXMLReader : Available for SQL Server 2000 or later. Upon execution it builds XMLReader object from standard SQL query.
4. Which DataAdapters are available for use with different Databases in ADO.NET?
Ans:ADO.NET makes these data adapters available for use with databases:
OleDbDataAdapter - suitable for use with any data source exposed by an OLE DB provider.
SqlDataAdapter - specific to SQL Server. Because it does not have to go through an OLE DB layer, it is faster than the OleDbDataAdapter. However, it can only be used with SQL Server 7.0 or later.
OdbcDataAdapter - optimized for accessing ODBC data sources.
OracleDataAdapter - optimized for accessing Oracle databases.
6. What is the use of DataAdapter Class?
Ans:1.represents a set of SQL commands and a database connection that are used to fill the DataSet and update the data source.
2.serves as a bridge between a DataSet and a data source for retrieving and saving data.
3.used to exchange data between a data source and a dataset. In many applications, this means reading data from a database into a dataset, and then writing changed data from the dataset back to the database.

VB.NET Interview Question And Answers
1)Distinguish between VB and VB.net
VB
1.Object-based Language
2.Does not support Threading,inheritance
3.Not powerful Exception handling mechanism
4.Does not support console based applications
5.Cannot use more than one version of COM objects in vb application
called DLL error.
6.Does not support Disconnected data source.
VB.Net
1.Object-oriented Language
2.supports Threading
3.powerful Exception handling mechanism
4.Supports console based applications
5.More than one version of DLL is supported.
6.supports Disconnected data source using data source class
2. Compare C# and VB.NET?
C#
1. C# has concepts from many languages such as Delphi, Java, etc and syntax from C and Java.
2. C# is a console
3. C# uses Must not Inherit
4. C# uses Internal
5. C# uses abstract
VB.Net
1.Visual basic has been updated and revised to make it object oriented
2.VB.NET is a windows application
3.VB.Net uses sealed class
4.VB.Net uses friend
5. VB.Net uses Must Inherit
3.Whats the main difference between .dll extension and .exe extension?
.dll extension files: It is the In process component.
It uses client's memory to run.
communication between the application and component (.dll) is very fast.
.EXE extension files:
It is the Out of process component.
It uses its own memory not application memory to run the component.
communication between the application and component is slow compared to .dll
6. Define delegate.
These are object oriented function pointers. allows us to handle callbacks and events. can invoke the methods that refer to those methods without making explicit calls It encapsulates the memory address of function in our code.
Whenever we create or use an event in code, we are using a delegate. When the event is thrown, the framework examines the delegate behind the event and then calls the function which the delegate points to. This can be combined to form groups of functions that can be called together.
We use delegates to let procedures specify an event handler method that runs when an event occurs.
We also use delegates with multithreaded applications.
7.Difference between CLR & CTS?
CLR : is the common language runtime.
It makes the .net application to run plantform independent langauge interoperability.
It is the heart of the .net framework.
every runtime has responsibility to take care of code at the time of execution.
Example vb has MSCRT60 , java has JVM and .net has CLR.
CTS : Common type system is the subset of the CLR.
It enables the Common Datatype system to All the .net languages.
It defines conventions to convert objects from one langauge to another
It provides smooth comunication between two language.
Example vb .net has integer and c# has int , CTS change both into system.int32
8.What is the difference between manifest and metadata?
There are 2 parts of assembly architecture. They are
1. Manifest
2. Metadata
1. Manifest :
used for storing AssemblyName, AssemblyTitle, publicKey.
assembly manifest contains this assembly metadata.
can be stored in either a PE file (an .exe or .dll) with Microsoft intermediate language (MSIL) code or in a standalone PE file that contains only assembly
manifest information.
2. Metadata :
Metadata contains Namespaces, Classes.
Metadata is binary information describing our program which is stored either in a common language runtime portable executable (PE) file or in memory.
When we compile our code into a PE file, metadata is inserted into one portion of the file, while your code is converted to Microsoft intermediate language (MSIL) and inserted into another portion of the file.
Every type and member defined and referenced in a module or assembly is described within metadata.
When code is executed, the runtime loads metadata into memory and references it to discover information about your code's classes, members, inheritance, and so on.
9. What do you mean by Jagged Array in VB.NET and how it differs from multidimensional array?
Jagged Array :
Jagged array is multidimensional array. It also contains a table where each row can have a different number of columns. To create a jagged array, we declare the array of arrays with multiple sets of parentheses or brackets and indicate the size of the jagged array in the first set of brackets.
array of array is jagged array and multidimention array can have more than one dimension. multidimentional array has same size in all dimentions but jagged is the type of multidimentional array which has different size for its dimensions.
int array[2][2][2]; - > multidimentional array
int array[2][1][2]; - > jagged array
10.Advantage of VB.NET?
A. References
B. Shared Members
C. Delegates
D. Constructors and Destructors
E. All

ASP vs. ASP.Net 11
ASP vs. ASP.Net 11
1)What's the .NET equivalent for classic ASP's objRS.MoveNext?
Ans:SQLDataReader.Read() or OleDBDataReader.Read()
2)What happened to date() and time()?
Ans:In ASP.Net you should use:
System.DateTime.Now.ToShortDateString()
and
System.DateTime.Now.ToShortTimeString()
3)Is there a summary of differences from ASP to ASP.Net?
Ans:This page is a starting point.
4)Are there resources online with tips on ASP to ASP.Net conversions?
Ans:Start here :
5)How do I subtract days from a date and display it?
Ans:Try:
Dim NewTime as DateTime
NewTime = DateTime.Now.Subtract(New TimeSpan(7, 0, 0))
MyTimeControl.Text = NewTime.ToString()
'You can also format the output with something like:
MyTimeControl.Text = NewTime.ToShortDateString()
6)I'm getting an error trying to read a file from the FileStream.
Ans:Make sure you are escaping your '\' characters.
Try one of these lines:
objFS = new FileStream("c:\\test.txt", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read);
or
objFSt = new FileStream(@"c:\test.txt", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read);
7)I want to use a style sheet class directly on a control instead of using inline or page-level format
Ans:Every WebControl derived control has a CssClass property which allows you to set its format to a style sheet.
8)How should I destroy my objects in ASP.Net?
Ans:ASP.Net actually has very solid internal garbage collection so this should not be an issue as it was in previous versions of Active Server Pages.
9)Can ASP pages and ASP.Net pages share session variables.
Ans:Both ASP and ASP.Net support session variables, but the session variables are not shared across the two platforms.
This can be achieved with a third-party utility like StateStitch though.(http://www.consonica.com/solutions/statestitch/index.aspx).
10)Does ASP.Net still recognize the global.asa file?
Ans:ASP.Net does not recognize the standard ASP global.asa file. Instead it uses a file named global.asax with the same - plus additional - functionality.
11)Can I still run ASP pages on a server that runs ASP.Net?
Ans:Yes. They will run side-by-side with no adverse affects to the ASP pages at all.

List of interview questions relating to the new job / company
List of interview questions relating to the new job / company
1)Why do you want this job?
A)Think carefully about this question. Stress the positive aspects which have attracted you to applying for this position. Do not mention the negative aspects of your current job or the job in question.
2)What qualities do you think will be required for this job?
A)Their advertisement for the job may help you a little bit, but you should also think of the other qualities that may be required. These may include leadership ability, supervisory skills, communication skills, interpersonal skills, problem solving, analytical skills, etc.
3)What can you contribute?
A)This is your chance to shine. Tell them about your achievements in your previous position(s) which are relevant to the new position you are applying for.
4)Why do you want to work for this company?
A)Emphasise the positive reasons why you want to join their company, but avoid aspects such as more money or shorter hours. These would not endear you to a prospective employer.
5)What do you know about this company?
A)This is your chance to impress the interviewer with your knowledge of their company. Give them a run down of their products/services, sales figures, news, company figures, customers, etc.
6)What interests you about our product (or service)?
A)Again, your research into the company should aid you in answering this question.
7)What can we (the new company) offer that your previous company cannot offer?
A)Tread carefully here! Again do not mention money. Stress opportunities for personal growth, new challenges, etc.
8)You have not done this sort of job before. How will you cope/succeed?
A)Say that you are the sort of person who aims to succeed at everything you do and that you are very determined and will do whatever it takes to get the job done.
9)Why should we employ you?
A)The answer to this question will be based on your previous experience and achievements which relate to the company. At the end you could add that you think there is a good fit between you and the job, and do ask the interviewer for their opinion.
10)How long do you think it would be before you were making a significant contribution to the team/company?
A)If you think that you could contribute from day one then say so. Then turn the question round on them and say how soon would they expect it.
11)How ambitious are you? Would you compete for my job?
A)Depending on the position you are applying for you may want to sound fairly ambitious, but do not look as if you are after the interviewer's position.
12)What do you like and dislike about the job we are discussing?
A)Likes: stress things such as a new challenge or the opportunity to bring fresh experience to the company. Dislikes: Imply there is nothing to dislike about the job, which is why you are so interested.
13)Why did you choose a career in …?
A)Be positive about your reasons. If you have changed careers make a logical argument as to why you did so.
14)Why are you changing careers?
A)This question will only be asked if you are making a radical change in your career. Always stress the positive aspects of the change rather than the negative aspects of your previous career - you do not want to come across as someone who is moving just because you hate your old career. Say why you think you will be good in the new career - this should come from your experience and achievements, stress the transferable skills you have, such as leadership ability, etc.
15)How much does your last job resemble the one you are applying for? What are the differences?
A)The interviewer is trying to see how well you would fit in to the position you are applying for. So you should stress the similarities rather than the differences. When it comes to discussing the differences it will help your case if you can show that either you have done something similar in the past or that you can quickly pick up the new skills.
16)What do you think of the last company you worked for?
A)You should stress the positive aspects of your last company saying that they were a good company to work for. Tell them about the training you received or the work related experience you gained.
17)Why did you join your previous company? Did they live up to your expectations? Why are you leaving now?
A)Always be positive about your reasons for joining and leaving a company. Be very careful that you do not say anything negative about your present employer. If you do, the new company will wonder what you will say about them when you leave. You might want to stress that you are looking for a new challenge and that you feel that the company who is interviewing you fits the bill!
18)Explain the organisational structure in your last company and how you fitted into it?
A)This sort of question may be used to find out whether your old job is at a comparable level to your new job. If the new job being discussed would be a step up the ladder you will need to show that you are ready for a more demanding position. You may be able to show that you have already had many of the responsibilities and the necessary skills which would be required for the next step.

A)Remember where you are! If the company interviewing you is a small to medium sized company say that you enjoy a close atmosphere with a good team spirit. At a large company say that you enjoy the stability of working for a large and established company.
21)What are you looking for in a new job?
A)Make sure your answer fits in with the company who is interviewing you. A suitable reply would be that you are looking for a new job where you can apply your existing skills and learn new ones.
22)What would your ideal job be?
A)Again, remember where you are! Describe the job in terms of the criteria they have used to describe their job. An ideal job might include things like challenging work, a fair rate of pay for the job, nice colleagues, good career prospects, good team atmosphere, opportunity to learn new skills, apply old skills, etc.
23)Are you considering any other positions at the moment?

A)Say that he/she was the sort of person you could learn from and you communicated well, which meant that the task in hand was completed on time.
25)What did you do on a day to day basis?
A)Stress the positive things you did including your achievements. Even if some or much of it was paperwork, you can still show your interest in the way it was tackled.
26)Did you increase sales or profits in your last job?
A)This question is only relevant for senior managers or sales people. If you have increased sales and/or profit then do not be afraid to shout about it. If you have not increased sales say why not, e.g. general downturn in the market, etc. It might then be a good idea to mention an achievement in a previous job if your performance was better there.
27)Have you reduced costs at your last company?
A)If you have reduced costs say so - companies are always looking for ways to reduce costs.
28)How would you describe yourself? / How would others describe you?
A)Pick your best attributes and achievements from your career.
29)Do you consider yourself successful?
A)You should say you do. Pick some work related achievements that are in line with the position that you are discussing.
30)What was your greatest success? How did you achieve it?
A)You should pick an achievement which is related to their needs.
31)What has been your biggest failure?
A)Try to pick a failure which you were later able to correct or something that is not really important.
32)How could you improve yourself?
A)Do not mention anything negative about yourself - the interviewer is looking for a chink in your armour.
33)Did you feel you progressed satisfactorily in your last job?
A)If you progressed faster than normal you should say so. If growth was not as good as expected then be careful how you phrase this.
34)Are you a leader?
A)State how you have successfully acted as a leader, giving examples of your successes.
35)How do you handle criticism?
A)Your answer should be along the following lines: "I always think that it is important to get feedback on how I am performing so that I can improve any areas which my manager/supervisor highlights. Do you have regular staff appraisals and a staff development plan?"
36)What sort of manager are you? / What makes a good manager?
A)You should say that it is someone who listens to other people and can delegate whilst maintaining overall control of the task at hand, bringing in the project on time and to budget. Good planning skills are essential.
37)Do you work well with others? Or are you a loner?
A)Some jobs mean that you have to work very closely with other people whilst other jobs mean that you are largely working on your own, so you need to say that you are happy in both situations.
38)Do you need other people around to stimulate you or are you self-motivated?
A)You need to say that you are self-motivated.
39)Are you accepted into a team quickly?
A)Hopefully you can answer a resounding "Yes" to this question.
40)Can you act on your own initiative?
A)You should say that you can. You could ask how much responsibility you would have.
41)How do you run a meeting?
A)You could say that you must start with an agenda and stick to it. You could add that you would try to get the views and ideas from everyone present, working in an air of co-operation. If people moved off at a tangent you would bring them back to the item being discussed.
42)What motivates you?
A)Our suggestions are career growth, opportunity to learn new skills, good co-workers, etc.
43)What management style gets the best results out of you?
A)Try and think about how you have reacted to different managers and which factors have motivated you. Do not say too much in reply to this question, because if your answer is contrary to the management style of the company they will not be keen to employ you!
44)Do you know how to motivate other people?
A)Hopefully you can say "Yes", and say that you have to find out what motivates a person and give them recognition for a job well done. You should always give them encouragement and help them when required.
45)Are you competitive?
A)Your answer depends on the sort of job you are doing. If you will be working as part of a team you will need to show that you can work in the best interests of the team and not just for your own benefit.
46)Are you aggressive?
A)If you mean by this someone who gets things done, then the answer is "Yes". You need to defuse the implications of this question.
47)What do you dislike doing?
A)Say that you are prepared to do whatever it takes to get the job done well and on time and try to do disagreeable things first to get them out of the way rather than putting them off.
48)What problems did you encounter in your last job? What annoyed you about your last job?
A)Stick to the problems that you were able to solve, i.e. "I had problem X, which I later managed to resolve by doing Y". Show that you are a person who can solve problems rather than someone who lets things get on top of them.
49)What would you like to avoid in your next job?
A)You need to be positive here and say that there is nothing in particular that you would like to avoid.
50)Do you feel you are ready to take on greater responsibilities?
A)Show how you have progressed throughout your life and how you have accepted and taken on responsibility for the actions of yourself and others. If you have not really had many work related responsibilities you can mention other responsibilities you have had outside work.
51)Can you work under pressure?

52)How many hours are you prepared to work?
A)You would be prepared to work the necessary hours to get the job done on time.
53)Do you mind working for someone older than yourself? Younger than you? Of the opposite sex?
A)Here you can say that you are prepared to work with anyone.
54)What are your career goals?
A)Link in your goals with the company who is interviewing you.
55)How did you get on with your previous manager/supervisor, co-workers and subordinates?
A)Hopefully you can say that you got on well with everyone.
56)Have you been responsible for implementing ISO9000/BS5750 or Total Quality Management (TQM)?
A)If you have, state how you implemented it successfully. If you have not, you will need to show that you are used to working to company quality standards or that you have a methodical approach to carrying out work.
57)What interests do you have outside work?
A)Your hobbies and interests can tell an employer a lot about you, including whether you are sociable or solitary, and whether you can take on 'leadership' roles. So you should think about which interests will paint the right picture of you given the position you are discussing.
If you have changed jobs a lot you may be asked how long you would stay in the new job.
You should state that you are looking for a long-term opportunity where you can learn and develop. You could then ask them if this applies to the job being discussed.
58)Have you ever been fired?
A)If you have, you will need to handle this question with great care. Try and put yourself in as favourable light as possible without being too dismissive. If you have later been able to correct any deficiency which resulted in you being fired you should tell the interviewer.
59)Are you too old for this job?
A)You shouldn't really be asked this question (due to age discrimination legislation). But if you live in a country where there is no age discrimination legislation then you should tell the interviewer that you feel that your extra experience would enable you to make a bigger contribution to their company sooner than someone younger and less experienced.
60)Are you too young for this job?
A)An interviewer shouldn't ask you this question (due to age discrimination legislation). But if there is no age discrimination legislation in your country then you should answer: "No, I do not think so!" and then state the reasons why you are not too young. If you have a lot of experience gained in a short time, say so.
61)You may be over qualified for this position?
A)Tell them that you feel that your extra experience would enable you to make a bigger contribution sooner than someone with less experience.
62)Are you prepared to relocate?
A)If you are, say so. If you do not want to move then you do not have to accept the job - try and come across as someone who is positive.
63)Are you willing to travel?
A)Again if you are, say so. You want to sound positive, so find out how much travelling is involved before you turn down the job.
64)How often are you off sick?
A)This can be a difficult question to answer if you are frequently off sick or you have just recovered from a prolonged period of illness. If you have generally enjoyed good health and this period of illness is not typical then you should say so.
65)What did you earn in your last job?
A)You have to be very careful when answering this question because once an interviewer knows your current salary they will try and fix your next remuneration based on this figure. This may be satisfactory if you only wanted a modest rise in salary and your current salary is in line with their salary range, but, what if your current salary is substantially lower than the rate for the job, or if you want a substantial salary rise? In these cases you would be best advised to say that you do not really want to prejudice yourself by being too high or too low. Ask if you can discuss this later after the responsibilities for the job have been discussed; you may also want to ask them what the range for the job is (if you do not already know).
66)What level of salary are you looking for now?
A)Be very careful when you answer this question - you do not want to appear to be greedy. If you are applying for a specific vacancy you could ask them what the salary range is. Once they have answered you could say "I think my experience would place me at the top end of your range, don't you?" If they ask you this question fairly early on in the interview you could delay answering by saying "It is hard to discuss salary without first knowing a little bit more about the job and the responsibilities."
67)What will your referees say about you?
A)Say that you expect excellent references.
Difficult questions
If you cannot answer a question you might reply with "That's an interesting question - how would you tackle it?"
Fantasy questions
These sort of questions can be very difficult to answer. Such questions might include: "What would you do if you won the National Lottery?" You should give the answer, which in your opinion will give you the best chance of getting the job.
19)How long have you been looking for a new job?
